About
The pandemic has ushered in a new reality. On one hand the social distancing is almost like a tearing of the social fabric as we know it. There is isolation and turmoil at various levels – within and around with no clear sense of how long this would last. This time is uncertain and disempowering in many ways and most crisises, the poorest are always the hardest hit.
The plight of the migrant workers distressed me. They were forced to leave the cities they worked in with just a few hours’ notice, unable to pay for travel, rent or food. While all forms of public transport were stopped, several workers began their arduous journey by foot. With inter-state borders blocked, they were stranded in between. For those who made it, it wasn’t a pleasant welcome. They were asked to be quarantined for at least two weeks.
Our Prime Minister was asking the more privileged people to put up a spectacle of lights while on the other hand the poor man’s plight was becoming a shameful spectacle.
Not enough was being done for the poor who are biggest constituent of our society, our support system and the foundation on which the middle-class, the well-to-do and the rich build their lives.
Hence I strongly felt the need for us artists to rise up and use our resources to support those who need us most. I have always been drawn to art and activism as reflected in my past events.
Hence I conceptualised an event for the bellydance and artist community at large. It would include all genres of bellydance and provide a 360 degree view in terms of offering so as to inspire and connect us in times like these while serving the vulnerable who urgently need support.

Lacey Sanchez
Lacey Sanchez
Lacey Sanchez began her journey into Tribal Belly dance at the age of 15 in Southern California. Her love for this beautiful art form was immediate; the thrill of live drums and dancing with her sisters was inspiring. She took this love for the dance through high school and pursued a dance degree in college. She studied many forms of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Ballroom. However, Lacey sustained an injury that would prevent her from ever pursuing a career in classical dance. To her surprise though, because Belly Dance is best danced barefoot her doctor encouraged her to continue Belly dancing. Lacey then travelled cross country from California to Central Florida where she was exposed to the large community of Cabaret Belly dancers in Florida. Lacey then spent four years studying, teaching, and performing classical Cabaret Belly dance in Florida as well as in Southern California. It was in her last trip to California where her original love for Tribal Belly dance was re-ignited. Lacey then made the decision that she wanted to bring her experience and love of Tribal Belly dance to Florida. So she began Florida Tribal Dance in November of 2006 for just that reason. Lacey has a deep passion for teaching, whether in the classroom, in workshops, or online, she lives for the thrill of learning and watching dancers of all levels flourish! Lacey completed the FatChance Bellydance General Skills Certification in June 2009 as well as Teacher Training in 2017. Lacey completed and passed the necessary requirements and testing for Phases I, II, and III of Rachel Brice’s 8 Elements program. She also completed and passed her Teacher Training in October 2019 and became a Certified Datura Style Instructor.

Madhura Vayal
Madhura Vayal
Madhura is a qualified nutritionist with a certificate in Plant Based Diet from eCornell University, New York.
After graduation she worked in India as a dietician for 5 years and then moved to the US to pursue her Masters in Nutritional Sciences from University of Kentucky where she specialized in effects of a high fat diet on cardiovascular disorders and diabetes and published her work (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3220787).
Her personal health issues along with the health of her husband led her to explore a plant based lifestyle which is oil as well as refined sugar free.
Madhura started putting on weight after an emergency appendectomy in her mid-teens which had her on bed rest and minimal activity. She also suffered from allergies and migraines. Despite all conventional treatments she remained unwell. As a result of her obesity, in 2006, at the young age of 25, she suffered a stroke due to sudden rise in blood pressure which left her paralyzed in the left side. Though doctors had given up hope of her survival, she got back on her feet thanks to a few diet modifications, exercise and medical treatment. Weakness in the left side along with tremors were making everyday activities tiresome.
A few years on, with marriage and 2 kids, the weight was back. The migraines were excruciating and she did not have the energy to manage her home. Her own and her husband’s annual medical check–up with elevated cholesterol levels was a wakeup call and she was determined to not let history repeat itself. The documentary Forks Over Knives was instrumental in the family’s adopting a 100% plant based lifestyle. Within a month, her weight had dropped by 4 kg, her allergies had gone, migraines were under control and she regained energy. A year on, she had lost 26 kgs and all her health issues were gone!
Madhura believes that our health is the best investment and the more we invest more in ourselves, the higher the returns. By making the right choices, you feel healthy and buoyant. Today, she conducts cooking classes and does nutritional consultations at SHARAN.

Dance is one of the most ancient forms of devotional worship and ritual celebration as movement is life and life is motion! The human body itself is a powerful instrument of connection, communion and expression; literally a microcosmic manifestation of the macrocosm, infused with the force of creation. Through intentional awareness and movement (dance), we can access this power and consciously work with and through it. We can open portals of
catalyst, renewal, and healing, both for ourselves personally, and for the collective.
This workshop will support you in moving your dance practice and performance beyond the spheres of entertainment, fitness or socialization into the rich realms of ritual and magic. Approaching our dance as ritual is a way to cultivate awareness and direct intentional energy to create positive transformation in ours and others lives. It is a sacred act of honoring both The Self and The Dance in their highest potential. When we approach our dance journey with intention we are afforded a beautiful opportunity to know our inner power and move into a more uplifted and connected state of being.
This workshop will be half lecture/discussion/Q and A and half embodiment practice. We will cover:
Clarifying and refining the intentions of your dance practice and performance Creating structure in your dance life to continually align with and energize your chosen intentions Following the flow of your true inspiration to create meaningful work Make conscious, magical and effective choices for your costuming, music, etc
